I went into the ER in late July and found a "blockage" in my colon and was given a surgery and a name of Crohn's disease given. Now waiting for the resection.
I'm going to see a GI doctor this week, but have no idea what to ask or expect. Currently taking 6mp which makes me loss many hair and I'm thinking of shaving my head. After the resection surgery, I'm hoping to be med. free with probiotic and vitamins only. I feel perfectly fine now and I really have no problem eatting different things included ice cream, red wine, salad, and pizza. Do you think my mission is impossible?

Thank you so much for your information. I really need the personal experienced because I'm new to Crohn's and have no idea who my enemy is. Surgery would be not something I want to have because I also have 2 kids to take care. However, I will try to complished different plans in life and Crohn's will not teared my down. I hope you have positive attitude too. Please let me know if anything is going wrong so I can prepared.

God bless you and best possible to you ! your positive attitude will always help. learning all i can gives me courage and comfort, empathy and compassion. the most important thing ive learned is to diligently take my prescribed anti-crohns meds to help avoid another episode and/or prevent future surgery. surgery just isnt a permanent cure but is worth what youll go thru.
i found out i had crohns the same way you did--when an ileocecal blockage with a grapefruit-sized polypoid mass required a hemicolectomy and gallbladder removal. the surgeon tried to perform the operation laparascopically first but realized it would be in my best interest to open up my abdomen from top to bottom.
i could eat a much larger variety of foods before surgery than after. i cant tolerate raw foods, milk, soy milk or high-fiber foods anymore. frequently i can only eat clear liquids or maybe white flour noodles or rice for awhile. but i dont mind because otherwise its too painful and severely limits my activity and enjoyment of life. probiotics haven't changed things for me at all.
after surgery, the diarrhea has never completely subsided but improved significantly when my doctor also prescribed an irritable bowel drug six months later. like most crohnies i had another major flare about 13 months following surgery with more scarring and stricture development.
scar tissue, an unavoidable consequence of the surgery, caused some of the stricturing. now simple strictureplasty and other minor procedures can solve the problem. so far, things havent progressed to the point of another blockage. hope yours never does.

You mention a lot of foods that you can eat, but I think that you should do better to control your diet. Dairy, for example, is questionable. What could be more important with a digestive disease than the food that you put into your body?
Maybe a holistic health counselor or nutritionist could help. Sometimes nutritionists (and some holistic health counselors are nutritionists) are covered by insurance.
I hope that this helps!
