Ileostomy vs colostomy surgery

Mon, September 13, 2021 2:54 PM

Hi, I have to decide to remove all of my large intestine or just the part at this time that is damaged and I am not sure what to do and am looking for opioion and advice?
I have to have my rectum removed due to a complicated anal fissula. My right side of my large intestine has been healthy since 2009 but was completely covered with ulcers in 2008. My left side has never really healed and has always been red/inflamed and causing problems. The surgeon suggests removing all of it because my chances of it coming back is high and would most likely need another surgery in a couple of years to remove the remaining part.
Thank you
