I guess it's been a few weeks now since you've had your surgery.  I hope you are feeling better everyday.

I just wanted to provide you with some hope and encouragement...I had my first and only surgery 10 years ago.  It provided me with so much relief and while I stayed on medications to keep the Crohn's in remission, I had days where I felt NORMAL.  I gained weight, had more energy, and ate what I wanted.

I am scheduled to go in for my 2nd surgery in 3 weeks.  My doctor hopes it will give me another good 10 years or more...everybody is different, of course, but there is hope that you'll get better and achieve remission of your symptoms, at least for a while.  Good Luck to you!

Almost two years after my surgery, I can say without a doubt, it was the right thing for me.  I had a total colectomy with and ileostomy and although they left enough for me to be resectioned, I haven't done it yet.

In my case, none of the meds were working so I didn't have much of a choice.  However, knowing what I know now, I would have done it a long time ago.  I am 41, married with two kids (married before diagnosis and kids after) and very active.  Even with the ileostomy, there isn't anything I am not doing.  I participate in triathlons, help coach my kids sports teams, umpire baseball and referee basketball.

Regarding the recovery, it gets better...way better.  It probably took me three months before I was able to comfortably sleep on my stomach and probably six months before I didn't have any pain.  I know that seems like a long time, but as you improve, the time goes by faster and faster.
