hi just needed to let someone know today is a year that i had my first surgery after fighting this disease for over thirty years.. This disease took so much from me that i can never get back, my onset was at age 17. Right now i look back at how the surgery was the most biggest horryifing decision i had ever made, i was scare but after 81/2 hours having my innereds ripped out of me i must say i am today so glad i made the decision to do the surgery... meds free for a year now ( just the occasional pepcid.).. i fear every day i wake up that the beast will one day roar its ugly head again... i am tired of fightng this fight...even after surgery you can never be who you really think you are... its a shame that those of us who are so terribly conflicted with this disease have to suffer not only physically but mentally. thanks for letting me share my year anniversary with all out there ...good luck and god bless

i have crohns.. and it is weird because i have been on meds for soo many years that being on only pepcid in the morning feels great...i had half my stomach removed i had a draining fistula in the small intestine so they chopped that out and i had half my colon removed...i will say that i think i had the best of surgeons, the surgery was over eight hours and i was in the hospital for 7 days, i requested to have a central line in my neck only because the hassle of a regular iv in the arm or hand does not work well for me, plus its easy to move around without it being in those two places. I never feel i am out of the woods i know this disease can return  and im not looking foward to it.

Were you fighting crohns or UC?  what type of surgery did you have?  Resection?  Strictureplasty?

I have my first surgery consult tomorrow so I am iterested in knowing more about your success.

Congratulations!  I would love never to see the ugly Prednisone or imuran or remicade ever again.  I believe even if I have surgery I am doomed to the awful crohns drugs for the rest of my life.

Do (or did) you have UC?

It is so good you can look back after a year and see how far you have come--and that you are feeling better!
