6 months post surg

Hi,

I had a resection in Sept 2008. The doctor took out a foot and a half of diseased small intestine.  I just went for my first follow-up colonoscopy and my doctor said he saw some "severe" inflammation.  Does anyone else have experience with this?  I was hoping to get a full year before it came back but is this pretty normal?  I feel fine and after starting probiotics a month ago, I am pretty problem free.  My doc wants to start me on Remicade to hopefully take care of the problem quickly so it doesnt escalate.  Just want some opinions from people who have possibly experienced the same thing.

Thanks!

Aloha, I Was diagnosed with Crohns in 1977.Back then it took 3 years to diagnose it.I have been on just about everything. in Feb 2007 I had my first surgery. Its not what I expected. I was hoping for at least a two year break. I didn't even get two months. My first surgery was 31 cm of small bowel and a right sided collectomy.I followed up with imuran and Cimzia. The Cimzia created excruciating bone pain and joint problems. So,iam back on entocort and imuran and looking foreward to another surgery in the near future. My advice is simple, actually it is advice I got from Dr.F at Cleveland Clinic; Put off surgery until you cant take it anymore.

I had surgery in October 2008 within a few weeks I was having chronic diarrhea again.  I had a colonoscopy done last week and I have severe inflammation in my sigmoid and ileum.  He did biopsies and I haven't heard back.  I was on Remicade for years.  I developed Psoriatic Arthritis from it and had a reaction after years I couldn't walk for about a year because of my feet the skin would peel off and become raw.  I would not recommend it.  I would do anything natural I could as long as I could.

I did do remicade for 6 treatments and became extremly ill.  Turned out I got histoplasmosis  which is a fungus in my lungs from the remicade.  I know have had my entire colon removed. I do have a friend that is on remicade and imuran and is doing great.  Go with your gut feeling.

I had a small bowel resection of one foot in Feb.  I started 50 mg Imuran the day I came home from the hospital and Remicade the following week.

I feel great.  I have had no scopes since surgery.  Hopefully the lifetime meds (Remicade and Imuran) will keep the inflammation away.

Remicade scared me at first but now I am comfortable with it.  My last infusion went so smoothly it was almost like receiving saline solution.

Good Luck!

After my resection, I only had two months before I flared, right at the surgical site.  I highly recommend you do anything to get the inflammation under control now, because otherwise you'll be in the same place you started from.  Most people who have had a surgery will end up with another, but at least try to delay it for as long as you can.  Good luck.
