Exercise after surgery

Fri, May 08, 2009 12:00 AM

Hi. I'm scheduled for surgery next Friday, May 15th for the first of two part surgery (j pounch). I was wondering how soon after surgery will I be able to start walking, moving, exercising. Nothing too heavy or intense but maybe some 5-10lbs weights and some squats/lunges. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

It's been nearly a month.  How are you doing?  Ask a friend to post for you if you don't feel up to it.  (Of course I'm hoping you're out there doing lunges and just feeling too good to post!)

Hey. That's a wonderful question! First of all, I wish you success of the surgery and health!! Secondly, to answer your question, after I had sugrery earlier this year, I was fit and loved excercizing. A day or two after your surgery, your nurse will probrably make you do a walk to a chair in your room and back. It is not easy at all!!! I admit that! Dont take anything too fast, becasue that will lead to intence pain and you will not be happy! Take everything a step at a time, slowly, and you will get well smoothly, please GD!  You should however, ask your surgen at your pre-op, if it hasnt held place yet, this question. My surgen said that anything thats the usual, will take at least a month to 6 weeks. But it depends on the intensity of the surgery. I hope this is helpful! If not, ask more questions on here or for you docter/ surgen. i wish you the best of luck and a complete, fast and easy recovery!! Try not to be nervous! When and if you do, just breath in deaply and slowly and go to a serine place. :) Good luck!! All the best!!
