Hi all,
It's that time. I've been battling UC for 8 yrs (as of last Sunday) and will be getting surgery tomorrow, May 15th. I'm in the process of doing my prep at home. I've been strong and confident about the surgery for weeks, especially, after my last hospitalization which led me to the the decision about the surgery. However, it's the day before now and my nerves are kicking in. I'm feeling a bit sad too as if I should've, could've, would've done something else over the years to avoid this fate. Maybe better eating habits, less dependence on drugs, more exercise, less stress, etc.... I guess it's a moot point now. I understand the challenges and difficult road ahead of me as far a recovery but know that within a few months I will be better (GOD willing) and will live the normal, healthy life I've missed out on for 8 yrs. A year from now, all this will be nothing more than a spectale of a memory. Any encouraging thoughts out there???
Thanks,
Betty

Brad,
My prayers are with you. My surgery was May 14th. If you'd like to read about it, I'm the one who posted "Sharing post-surgery story...".
May God give you peace and confidence as you approach your surgery and hasten your healing as you recuperate.
Blessings,

Hi Betty,
I hope you are doing well and healing nicely! You should keep in mind that after your surgery, you can start "new". From your daily routines of diet exercise, and work load. I have been on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet for about a year and am not on any medication, Thank GD! There are many choices out there and many support groups for them. If you haven't yet, you should try to join a gym, and go a few times a week. Once your completely healed that is. Take a step at a time and you'll get to the top where you control your disease rather than the disease controlling you. You should keep in mind however, that the disease is not necessarily cured from your surgery. So what you do with your body and put in your mouth can, and will decide your future. I wish you the BEST of luck, and hope that you gain your 8 lost years with 8 healthy, happy, and strong years to come!
All the best,
"IveGotIt"

Betty,
My surgery is June 2nd. I too can understand the anxiety as you approach the date. I think the long term focus is what you need to be concentrating on. Like you said, 8 years of battle will be over. You will be rid of your disease! After a short healing time (3 months vs. 8 years) you will be happy you did it. I wish you luck and send my prayers.
