Just had surgery 2 weeks ago and yes they did take out the appendix...It is always done from my understanding where you had your surgery..

Er, I meant to say, call your doc and ask. And ask why if he/she did remove it!

I had the same surgery many years ago though my ileum was perforated. They took my appendix out at the same time and all they said was, "Well, you don't need it anyway, so..." Not exactly justified, but it certainly would prevent any future problems. :)

I had the same surgery and they removed my appendix. Come to find out it was rather inflamed in addition to my other problems so removing it was a good thing. I have also heard it is removed with this surgery inflamed or not.

Thank you! My surgery was an ileocecectomy.

I just had surgery last week, and I think it was the same procedure as yours. I had four inches of my terminal ileum and a small portion of my large intestine removed. The small intestine was reconnected with a sort of "side mount" back onto the large. My mom asked me if the doc took out my appendix; I didn't think he did, b/c he didn't specifically say he was going to. But when I asked him the next day, he said that they rarely leave the appendix in with this procedure. I would just go ahead and call your surgeon and ask. You most likely never have to worry about appendicitis. Hooray...there's something that CAN'T go wrong with your digestive system!
Happy recovery,
Karen
