Hi. I am a patient with crohn's and my daughter has a mild caseof it also. She has some other problems now with inflamation building uo from her side up to the rib cage and the doctors have done a cat scan with the die and saw inflamation on the outter part of the lagre intestine and says yes you do have crohn's but that's not the problem and they are treating it with antibiotics for two weeks and have talked about doing exploritory surgery to see how much and what they are dealing with since she's been on the antibiotics one of the side effects the tendints are giving her some problems I suggested that she goes ahead and call the doctor to let them know what's going on , she's also saying she feels like she wants them to do the exploritory operation and just have it removed, I told her to ask about all the risks and when they find out how much of the lagre intestines theyre working with to she if she will have to live with or without an colostomy bag and go from there. If any one has any suggestions please feel free to comment to about this dealing with unknown illness is mid boggling as it is and then have to have something else unknown pop up thanks for any suggestions. Adrienne,
It sounds like she may have an infection or maybe a fistual. Fistuals are abnormal tunnels that start as an infection. They can be treated with anitbiotics or drain it with surgury. But they are very hard to get rid of. If she has surgery, try to have it laproscopicaly. The healing will be much faster. Also If they only take out a small portion of her colon, then they can reconnect it later. Colostomy is not all that bad, especially if it is only temporary. I have a ileostomy and it is better than the alternative. I am off most of the medications. Before surgery I would recommend exploring other medications and going to a clinic that specializes in IBD. Good luck.
