Total Colectomy in 83, resections in 98(x2), and now 04/13/09. Many complications after this most recent resection. Still suffering with excessive gas and cramps. Currently taking Humira, prednisone, hyoscyamine, and immodium . The noise and the amount of gas extreme. Mr MD has offered very little help with these symptoms. Almost dismissing them. Its very embarrasing and socially awkward . Doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to the frequency or timing. Quiet times are usually early in the day increasing as day grows later. I have tried many different diet changes but gas and cramps does not seem to change much. I have not had this with any of my other surgeries to my bowels. In total, besides the collectomy I have lost about a total of 2-3 feet of small bowel. Not drastic but enough that I need the immodium to help slow the transit time down after this most recent surgery. I'm wondering if any combination of these drugs Im taking could be the cause or part of it? I still have some tenderness in the lower part of my abdomin at the beltline.
Has anyone else gone through this.

Hello Rob.
My first posting was short and sweet. My wife says I can be WORDY. I went into renal failure immediately after this most recent resection. Had horrible uncontrollable diarrhea through the ileostomy. My surgeon threw everything in the book at me for a week or more until I almost went into stop mode. BM's became very thick and painful. Finding a happy medium even today is tricky. I'm better for the most part. The incision healed very quickly but the bowels are very slow to come along.&; My weight loss was pretty extreme; Jan 1 I was near 185 lbs and after surgery and coming home I was 137 lbs; My body is most comfortable in the. Cramps have gone for the most part but this gas is EXPLOSIVE; the amount is ridiculous. Hopefully this will diminish as I continue to heal. I've had Crohns for 27 years, I'm 45 and this is my 4th surgery and I've never had this much gas before. I've tried to treat this as a Candida problem and no help. I've tried several diets thinking this was a food allergy issue. Still no major relief.
I hope that you can find some relief and continue to heal and get better. It's been 27 years since I've had NORMAL BM. Hopefully you don't wait to much longer for a simple thing as that.

Hello
I just had surgery back on June 11 which involved 4 resections for Crohns Disease plus a Strictectomy. I am now in 4th week post-surgery. The problems you stated are similiar to mine. I have frequent BM's and are controlled by narcotics for post-surgical pain and my chronic pain caused by severe arthritis of my knees. The Bm's are troublesome however. I usually have three in morning which are very painful. First BM is ok but 2nd and third are not due to straining. As result I have painful bleeding hemorhoids and from straining my abdominal area where the incisions are, is very tender. I hope this suffering ceases soon, as I hate to eat and then go to bathroom! Hope your problem goes away
