Sub total colectomy/UC

Tue, August 18, 2009 12:00 AM

I've had UC for some 40 yrs and 2 months ago had a sub total colectomy and was in the hospital for a week. Recovery at home was a bit slow but I'm back to normal for the most part. 75% or so of the colon was removed with the sigmoid colon and rectum remaining. I'm curious if others who have had this surgery have any ideas on  diet, freq. of bowel movements, amount of exercise, medications...anything effecting one's life after the surgery. I'm only taking Sulfasalazine...and Imodium. And I'm having 4-6 BMs /day which I'd like to lessen if possible but the doc says I still need to give it more time.
