I am scheduled to have a partial colectomy in Sept and would like more insight of how my life will change afterwards.
My ulcerative colitis has been under control for 30 years but I have Primary schlerosing cholangistis and had a liver transplant in 1999. Now I have low grade dysplasia in a polyp that cannot be removed and high risk for colon cancer, so take out 2/3 of my colon to prevent cancer.
I have very little colon problems, it is my PSC that is more active. Would like to know what changes I should expect after surgery and would appreciate what others have experienced. Thanks!

Bradyg, Thanks for the reply! I had the operation on 9/10 at Mayo's. I am back home now and just trying to recooperate. My biggest issue is not to eat too much at one time, I get nausea for several hours, really miss fresh fruit right now.
Before this surgery my UC had been under control, maybe 2 BM/day. This surgery was recommended becuase of the very high risk of colon cancer, they could not remove polyps with low grade dyplasia and they actually found 10 polyps with low grade dyplasia in my colon they removed.
Appreciate your feed back about your surgery, and knowing that my BM's will get under control in the near future. I don't know anyone who knows what I am dealing with so it was good to hear from you. Hope all is well with you and keep me up to date on how things and going for you. Take care!

Hi...I had nearly the same procedure...a sub total colectomy in which about 75% of my colon was removed. I'v had UC for 40 yrs...and had some liver probs as well...auto immune hepatitis. My surg was June 19 and it took about 2 months to recover but after that things have been great. I have to go maybe 4-6 times/day...but not with the same urgency that often occured w UC. I'm still learning stuff about diet and thus far I eat everything. I've been trying to find others who've had this surgery to exchang info but haven't had much luck. It just takes some time to learn how your body reacts post surg...but I'm generally very pleased. If I can be of help, let me know. Don't know when your surg is...but good luck.
