Surgery for people past 68 years of age.

Has anyone had surgery past the age of 68? Worried that I might be too old to go through major surgery.

Thanks for the reply. I have never had major surgery, and now 69 years old. I am facing surgery on my small colon. I have had a mild case of cd for about thirty some years or more. The small colon area where  the cd is closing up. Scary to think about at my age, because u don't know what all they will find, but on the other hand it could help me a lot.

Hi,I am 65 and just had my third surgery in July.I have only a small section of the right colon left and am on hold to remove that part.I have UC,and am taking Asacol at this time.Since this last surgery I have been so sick and hospitalized just six weeks ago again for severe diarreah.I have dealt with this condition since in my 20's and it is unmanagable now.I take Lomotil for diarreha and that helps for several days and then am right back where I started. I also have systemic lupus which causes major energy depleation and practically live in the bathroom.I thought I would at least get some relief from 20 to 40 visits a day to the potty and have,am down to 8 to 10 a day, yeah, and my bottom stays in such an irritated mess all the time, nothing works, even the creams given to me at the last hospital stay.I see my surgeon back on Monday to decide if we will try a different med or will schedule surgery again. My advice to you is if you need surgery even though it is very tough to recover, talk it over with your Dr and do what you think is best for YOU.Good luck.
