Sphincterotomy Surgery; should I?

Mon, October 19, 2009 8:18 PM

I am 25 and have been having problems with fissures for about a year now.  I never go more than a month without one.  The pain has become unbearable causing me to stay home from work as I did today.  I now dread bowel movements more than ever.  My GI mentioned Sphincterotomy Surgery to me a few months ago and mentioned it again today.  He told me I might want to think about it.  He said that he has many patients who have had the surgery and it has been successful for them.  However, he warned me that there is the possibility of anal leakage.  None of his patients have has this problem but he told me it can't be ruled out as a possibility.  I was wondering if anyone has had this surgery or knows someone who has.  I would like to know the outcome and any other information you might find helpful.  This is a big decision for me.  Thanks!!!
