Mon, December 28, 2009 9:38 PM

I was reading through these posts and someone asked about BCIR procedure and I am curious to know what that is and what the letters stand for?

Thanks

hi - the bcir stnds for barnett continent intestinal reservoir which is a modification of the *** pouch.

it is a pouch inside the abdomen which stores the waste and is evacuated by a soft cathater when you feel the need.    the cathater is inserted though a small opening in the abdomen - which supposedly won't leak and you do not need a bag on the outside.

i am investigating this procedure and will post more when i have new information.   you can also google bcir and there are a few articles.
