I'm a 25yo with Crohn's and after my last stint in the hospital my GI has been talking about surgery to correct a stricture. Although I don't know if it will end up being a strictureplasty or resection at this point I'm trying to get prepared. I've read that you should be in good condition going into the surgery if at all possible, so I was wondering what I could be doing to prepare myself so if the surgery does happen I can have as easy of a recovery as possible. Thanks for any advice you can give.

I had the same surgery three-weeks ago. I knew since late December that I would be having it, so in between I just tried to be as healthy as my body would allow.
I took all my medications, and, even though I didn't feel like exercising vigorously, I did try to do some yoga and walk a few times a week. I was on a low residue diet, so getting nutrients was sometimes difficult. In addition to taking a multi-vitamin, I started drinking fruit and veggie juices (low in sugar) to try to get some of the vitamins I was missing from fresh produce.
So far, so good. I think I've healed well. I haven't needed pain meds for a week now, and I'm starting to get some energy back.
Hope that helps.
Good Luck!
Kim
