My 26 year old son Bobby just had his 3rd surgery to do the Illeostomy takedown and connect the J pouch on March 11th. He had a complication with a back up into his tomach which corrected itself after a day or so, but his bowel movements are SO PAINFUL that he actually yells when passing. He is an incredibly tough young man, so it really hits home to hear his yells when passing. The surgeon knew of this pain before he was released on March 19th and said it would get better. I know it has only been two days , but Bob keeps running to the bathroom and his anxiety levels are through the roof. He gets out and can barely ever sit down without having so much pain inside his rectum. He has Percocette for pain, but it doesnt even touch it. He is taking 2 mg Immodium 3 time a day, and Phenergan for the nausea caused by the intense pain. Has anyone else gone through this pain??Is it really normal? Everyones response would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

After I had that surgery I don't recall having any pain when passing stool. I would definitely look into that. I remembering having to go to the bathroom like every hour about 20 hours after surgery and there was a bit discomfort from not using my rectum for a while but after about a month that seemed to pass.

Doesn't seem he should be in so much pain, but I'm not an expert. I recommend that you go onto j-pouch.org and post this same question. There's a nurse named Jan who responds very frequently on there and she is EXTREMELY knowledgable. She will have some great info and will know if this should be cause for greater concern.
