I am a 30 year old female that was just diagnosed with Crohn's 2 months ago. I woke up with severe stomach pains and the CT scan showed I had Crohn's. I have had stomach issues before and was told it was a mild case of IBS.
I have a vaginal fistula ( that I have for 4 years and was told it was an ingrown hair) and an abscess. I am currently taking Cipro and Entocort and I am feeling good. Even though I feel fine I know that I can't be on this medication for long. I am already getting side effects from being on the medication for this long.
I am having surgery next week to remove the small instestine that is inflammed and put a "rubber band" in to drain the fistula.
Has anyone had this done? What should I expect my recovery to be like?
I am really new at this and learning about Crohn's everyday.

Glad to know there is light at the end of the tunnel. I am happy to hear that you both feel better.

Hi, I'm a 45yo female with Crohns.I've had multiple surgeries for blockages, but just last week I had the surgery for a peri-anal fistula. They put in a seton(the rubber band you were talking about) But mine is not a rubber band but a thin tube, plus they added a drain to help it along. I feel so much better. I had aweful pressure in right buttock and now it's gone. You have to keep the area clean, sitz baths are wonderful, and try to keep it dry. I wear a maxi pad and change it often.I'm really glad I had this surgery( I did put it off as long as I could). I wish you the best, and keep in touch.

I am a 34 year old female, just diagnosed in Nov. 09. I had exploritory surgery in Nov. I just had second surgery on April 3. I had a fistula to my bladder and was passing stool in my urine. They removed a 14 inch section of intestine and repaired my bladder. I was in the hospital for 7 seven days, with a drainage tube in my nose. That was probably the worst part of the whole surgery!! It has been almost three weeks and I feel really good. I am able to eat almost anything, before I would get terrible bloating, but now that is gone!! Hopefully your surgery will make you feel better!! Good luck, surgery is scary but I would definately choose that over feeling like crap all of the time!
