does surgery ultimately permit you to eat more?

Both my doctor and a potential surgeon say they are sure I could eat a greater variety of foods after an extensive surgery than I can now. And I get hunger fits. What have been peoples experiences regarding being able to eat more once they start to recover from surgery--a couple of months later, or whatever real recovery is? I dont want to have surgery, discover I can eat less and have the hunger fits come back. thank you.

I just had a resection and have found that I am able to eat much more of a variety of foods! After surgery I was starving and wanted to eat all the time, once I could eat! I am trying more foods but in smaller portions.  I think I tend to over eat, and that can't be good!
