Colectomy Complications & Pain

Sat, May 08, 2010 10:10 PM

I am 16.  I was diagnosed with UC on 3/11/10.  It was steroid resistant, my colon turned to hamburger and 4/14/10 I had my Colon removed.  On 4/27/10 I had emergency surgery because my rectal stump opened and I am now infected with ecoli.  I have been in almost constant pain the entire time.  Has anyone had anything like this happen?  Will I ever get better? Thanks, Rich

I didn't have your particular situation, but a year ago I had a resection, then I obstructed and had to have surgery again two days after the first (vomiting with a surgical incision was a great time!), then I developed an abscess.  I was out of commission for an entire month.

All I can say is that you will make it through this, just take it one day at a time.  Try to eat what you can to get your strength up.  Focus on the positives, even if it's just that you walked to the shower that day.  One day at a time.  Hang in there.
