Hi,
I have had crohns for 19 years, have been on just about every medicine.
I am now to the point of surgery. Crohns is in the lower part of the colon, and also will be removing my rectum and anus because rectum is also diseased so reattachment is not possible. I have done some research on living with a pouch and what to expect. I have been emotional but am doing better and realize this is not the end of the world.
If anyone has had this type of surgery any useful advice would be great.
I am having surgery in August and planning on taking 8 weeks off from work. My last two medicines were humria and remicade, both worked great but broke out in hives bad, am now on Cimzia and no breakouts but not working good.
Thanks, Jcp

my 21yr son had this surgery 1/26th- his disease was limited sigmoid/rectum as well. I can tell you his life was pretty bad in the months leading up to his decision- and this decision was not taken lightly. He tried diet, meds etc... everything prior to this. At the end it had to be done. He now has adjusted very well and is back in college, doing a summer internship and most importantly living his life. Although this is not the outcome anyone wants, it does provide a quality of life that otherwise is not attenable. He spent the day at the beach today... what a life!!
