Hi, I am 32 year old male diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease four years ago. Tomorrow I am scheduled to have anastomosis surgery for the first time. Surgeon told me that they are planning to take out a foot of small intestine and two feet of large intestine.
I was wondering if there is something that I really need to know before the surgery. Also, are there any “critical” questions that I need to ask the doctors?
Thanks for all your help!

I had an ileococic resection 2 yrs ago. Mine was done as a hand assisted laproscopic surgery which means the lapro holes and a regular incision. My surgeon reopened my c-section scar instead of making a new one.
I would just make sure you feel like all of your questions have been answered prior to surgery. Unfortunately they had me knocked out so fast I wasnt able to see my surgeon right before surgery and I have no memory of his first post-op visit. Having someone there to do the talking for you helps out a lot.
I was originally told 3-5 days in the hospital-I ended up there a week. I was off of work for 8 weeks. Ive heard of others going back sooner but, as always, it depends on the person and the type of work you do. I would recommend having someone at home to help out at first. I would make sure someone can shop for you as you will be on a restricted diet. I stocked up on what I thought I would need but I ended up being grossed out by just about everything so my husband had to still shop.
Best of luck on your surgery. I have not regretted having mine done.
