Diet after surgery

Wed, July 07, 2010 12:00 AM

I would like to hear from people who have had surgery.  My husband will have his colon removed and have a j-pouch created in 1 month.  I am wondering what people can eat.  His diet is so limited right now.  We are both looking forward to the day we can go to the Olive Garden and both eat the salad!  Any thoughts?

Thanks!  I'll pass the info. on to my husband.  He is so bummed about not being able to eat like he used to, along with all the other things that go with UC.  Good luck to your son.  My heart just aches every time I hear about a child who has this disease.

Hi, my 15 year old son just had his first j- pouch surgery a month ago and will have the takedown surgery in about 4 weeks.  He has an ileostomy bag right now and is eating everything under the son.  He was told by his doctors he can pretty much eat anything he can tolerate.  That is your answere, eat what you can tolerate.  Some people can't eat much veggies or nuts or fried food.  Everyone is different.  I would go slow at first and dont;t be afraid to try and eat your favorite foods.  Good luck
