Surgery Questions

Hello All,

New to this forum and looking for some advice.  Have had mild UC (left sided) for approx. 16 yrs with 1 - 2 flare-ups per year.  Not a big deal can control it with meds daily for remssion and for flare-ups when occur.

This year have had dysplasia shown a couple of times in section of colon where UC has been active in past (histological).  GIs standard procedure for a patient with long-standing UC when presence of DALM (Dysplasia Associated Legion Mass) shows in colon is to remove colon.

Ive had a GI who has gone in a couple of times to remove a polyp discovered erlier in the year and continual removal of area around polyp is still showing Low grade dysplasia.  GI wont cut any more and has recommended surgery.

Cant find a lot of info. on this subject as normal procedure is to remove colon when dysplasia is shown in biopsies as everyone is worried of colon cancer progression when dysplasia is present in UC patients.

Has anyone had a resection of the colon as opposed to a J-Pouch?  If so is/was it successful?  What are the problems?  GI and Surgeon are against this procedure as I will still have UC with a colon resection.  So what - Ive lived with UC for 15  plus years what if I can get another fifteen years out of a re-sectioned colon if the area that is showing early stages of cancer is removed?  Id like to still have a somewhat normal life as UC is not a problem for me to deal with - surgery is.

Any help leads or input on this subject would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Lots of questions with no research or data for answers.
