Pouchitis... before takedown??

Sat, April 07, 2012 9:00 PM

A little background info: I was diagnosed with U.C. in 2010 and less than a year later I opted for surgery to remove my entire colon. My ileostomy was supposed to be reversed a couple months after surgery, but I had complications during takedown and still have ol’ Dirty Deborah (That’s muh stoma!)

It’s been a year since my first surgery and I’m having large, frequent output of mucous from my rectum accompanied by an urge to push, abdominal pain and nausea. I’ve called my surgeon and he prescribed me antibiotics stating that it’s most likely pouchitis.. ? I was under the impression that pouchitis was a complication that formed after the takedown. Has anyone ever experienced this before takedown? I’d really appreciate any suggestions or hear about your experiences.
