i'm 22 and i was diagnosed with crohn's in 2004. my mom and cousin have u.c., my aunt has i.b.d., and my grandma has rhuematoid. i've been on entocort, remicaid, imuran (all 3 of which i had reactions to), pentasa, asacol, prednisone, probiotics, anitbiotics, most recently humira, and i've had to have iron infusions: i've yet to be in remission in these 4 years. i hit the hospital at least one a year because of my crohn's or issues stemming from flares and having a low immune system; i catch whatever cold is in a mile of me. i'm lucky if i make it to work 5 days a week, and when i'm sick the bills just keep piling up, which makes the stress higher. i'm really just getting sick of being sick all the time. not to mention that sometime down the line i want to have kids and with being this sick it's so not gonna happen. i'm thinking about surgery, but my husband and i are both nervous about it. does anyone have any info we could read and maybe bring to my next g.i. visit? thanks

Hi Jezjiah...I'm a 25+ yr. Crohn's sufferer & have been through quite alot, including hosts of drugs & surgeries. Due to a diagnosis of an extremely rare eye cancer, I was forced to stop 6-MP & Remicade & undergo ileostomy surgery in '06. I strongly suggest that you visit the following forum to learn from others, the pro's & con's of ostomy surgery. This is a great forum for people w/ ostomies...very friendly & HONEST. The name of the forum is C3Life. I believe that I first learned of this forum through the United Ostomy Association of America. I strongly urge you to check it out before making a decision...fuzzy
P.S. While the majority of people, including myself, wish that they didn't have to deal with an ostomy, most feel that the freedom (especially for those w/ UC) outweighs their previous suffering. Hope to see you there!
