4 year old with suspected Crohns

We have recently been told that our 4 year old may have Crohn's. He is scheduled for a colonoscopy and endoscopy on Tuesday. We cannot believe this is happening. I am very nervous and overwhelmed. I know this may seem silly but I am super nervous about the procedure. I hate the idea of leaving him for one minute at a hospital that he does not know (thank goodness) and with people he is unfamiliar with. I guess I am wondering what I should expect on Tuesday. Will they be able to tell me what we are up against? Will they prescribe medication that day? I have been so happy with the care we have received so far and how on top of things they have been. His symptoms started at the beginning of September so I am grateful that we are on a path to getting him better. It still feels very lonely and scary.

My daughter was 4 when she was dx w/cd. You are fortunate that you are comfortable with your care thus far and that you seem to be moving at a quick pace to either rule out or confirm a dx. Tomorrow will be a challenge with the clean out process, I used to make jello jigglers just not red in color to help us through the cleanout. I know the anticipation of the unknown is so difficult, but once you know what your little one has you can begin the process of educating yourself. The procedure is actually quick and relatively easy / routine for these gi's that do it all of the time. It is much more difficult for us worrisome parents in the waiting room. My daughter doesn't even have a recollection of it and she's had many. He's so young they may not insert the iv while he's awake and put it in once they give him a little sedative in the or. One thing to remember is once he's back in recovery and you are able to see him try not to wake him. I made that mistake once and she was cranky to say the least. Letting her sleep it off has always worked best. She typically comes back with oxygen running and of course the monitors, measuring her heart rate and oxygen levels. Don't be scared if you are your child will probably pick up on it. Once awake then they make sure they can tolerate some flavored ice and you will be given follow-up instructions and detail of things to watch for, maybe even pictures (we have quite a collection). Your doctor may or may not prescribe a med just yet, they may elect to hold off to see what the biopsies show. We've experienced both so it may just depend of what they can see visually during the procedure.
