Hi. My daughter saw a pediatric GI yesterday and what was first diagnosed as a fissure is now a fistula. She’s leaking, has lost weight and now has anemia. She’s 16 and miserable. So when the specialist said she needed a fill colonoscopy and had to be completely under she started sobbing. This threw the dr off that she reacted so strongly. I found this crazy!!! Anyway she suspects Chrohns but stated the colonoscopy would be scheduled in 6-8 weeks!!!’ Is this normal??? I’m thinking it needs to be way Quicker. I’m about to pay for second opinion. Should I be more concerned?

I'm sorry about what your daughter is experiencing. The full colonoscopy is scheduled 6 to 8 weeks is too far away. I would ask if the Dr's colleague can do the same earlier than that if that is a possibility. If it is really a 6 to 8 weeks wait, I would call the scheduling line every day to see if there is a cancellation. Persistance is a key tp get an appointment for sure. Hope your daughter gets some medication to ease the symptom until she receives a colonoscopy to get a full diagnosis.

Loss remind me of when I had colitis and was passing huge amounts of blood in my stool but didn’t notice it. I ended up getting a bunch of blood transfusions. Eventually I was going in for three pints every month. The weight should come back once you have this under control. Good luck, and see if you can move up the colonoscopy. Nothing will get done till you have that.
