I have a 9 year old daughter that has had UC since she was 6. We have been able to maintain her UC with Pentasa, but she never seems to be fully rid of all symptoms. Is it common to be in remission and still have bloody stools a few times a week? Stomach cramping after she eats? Lots of bloating?
All her lab tests come back normal, yet her life seems far from 'normal' because she is never completely away from all of these symptoms. Does anyone have experience with this? Is this just part of the disease and what we should expect? Does anyone have any advice from your own experiences? We do follow a very healthy diet and take precautions with her health and she is a dancer so is very active. She would just love relief from all of this.

Wow!! I am right where you are. My son (10) was diagnosed around 2yrs old and we still frequently have problems. His stools are always loose and he is often uncomfortable. His tests are ok unless there is an obvious flare-up. He's on Pentasa (2000 mg/day) and we use Canasa suppositories to supplement. Isn't that just soooo much fun?!?!
I've started to implement the anti-inflammatory diet in slow steps hoping that may help too. I'll keep you posted on that. Unfortunately, I think some symptoms are here to stay. And I really hate that!
