---My husband is 69 and was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in 1998. I am interested especially in communicating with other spouses of persons with UC. His UC has been out of control since coming off of prednazone. He has just started seeing a new Gastroenterologist (a dr. his former Gastro dr. recommended who is closer to home) who does not want him to go back on prednazone. Hopefully with the new dr. he can get stabilized again. I am interested if others have had success with meds other than prednazone and not remicade (spelling?) My husband tells me that because remicade is so expensive, insurance won't cover it unless there is a proven failure with prednazone.

---Thanks for the info about going directly to the pharmaceuticals (sp?) for lower prices if needed. Right now my husband's new doctor is doing some more testing and has recommended he take bene-fiber and imodium in addition to the Asacol and 6MP that he already taking. This seems to be working for right now.
Also my husband and I listened to the webcast audio on nutrition and diet and are going to make some additional alterations, especially during flare ups, to what we already were doing. Have you and your daughter discovered some helpful things related to nutrition and diet?

Hi - I do go on this web site sometimes. My daughter has UC. I found that alot of the pharmacutical companies have their own programs for medicines for people that cant afford it. Many meds for these diseases are so very expensive especially if insurance does not cover. Try to go to the source, Pharmacutical companies. I hope this helps. - Let me know. Gail

Thank you very much to the person who sent the link to info about remicade and Medicare. Yes my husband is on Medicare, and we can do further exploration of coverage if he and his doctor decide to try it. Like prednazone remicade is powerful and has a number of side affects/risks so there is alot to consider. He sees his Gastro dr again soon. We don't know yet what the recommendation will be.
