Hi,
My 17 yr old daughter is in a flare. Currently she is on 6MP, Asacol and now on Mesalamine enema at night. She was showing improvement until she returned from a 5 day visit to Disneyland during Christmas. She saw doc today and doc suggested the same ole bland diet she's basicially been on. I'm just looking for other ideas besides rice, bananas, plain toast, broth etc. Any ideas would be APPRECIATED!!! THANK YOU!!! Debba :)

My daughter is a CD patient for 6 yrs. and I know how tough it can be, especially during a flare. Let's face it, the bland thing get boring quick.
I went to a GI yesterday and just scheduled a colonoscopy for myself. In the paperwork, a light diet is suggested til 3:00 the day prior to the procedure. Here are some suggestions: soft cooked or scrambled eggs, toast, butter and jelly w/o seeds, strained soups, cream of wheat, french toast, pancakes w/butter and plain syrup, mashed potatoes, pasta with butter or parmesan cheese, smooth yogurts w/o fruit, jello, puddings, sherberts, smooth applesauce, smooth peanut butter, and liquid nutritional supplements.
I'm not sure if there is a lactose issue w/your daughter, but figured I would include all of their suggestions to give you add'l ideas.
One thing that I have found helpful is "grazing" all day. My daughter's gut seems to do better with that as opposed to square meals.
I wish you and your family well, and hope this gives you a few more options/ideas.

Does she have a problem with dairy ? My daughter has a problem with dairy bringing on flairs. Can your daugher eat meats ? Why does she have to eat a bland diet? I presume to rest her colon ?? We have been going through diet changes for years so I will try to offer suggestions as soon as I know more about what she can eat. How long does she have to eat bland foods ? Does she need high calorie foods ?
I'll be thinking about you and I hope I can help you.
Hang in there (your dgt. too) !

My 15 y/o son eats mostly organic food, no preservitives, no high fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oils, caffeine, etc. He also takes VSL#3 and fish oil capsules to help reduce inflammation. I hope she feels better soon
May I ask- how is that working for Jon? We have tried similar treatments for our 16 y/o son with unproductive results. Finally considering Remicade to see what happens. Thanks.
