What foods do you find affect your child? Mine is 4 with Crohn's and has had it since he was 2. He hardly ever tells me he doesn't feel good and is very active and growing, but his colonoscopy 2 weeks ago showed alot of inflammtion. I feel he doesn't know any difference between what feels right or not. He has been on Imuran since diagnosis, but the dr wants to start Entocort too. Just trying to definitely watch every bite that goes in his mouth.

My son is 16 and has UC. We find it difficult to identify those trigger foods. Say he feels bad after eating a piece of pizza: was it the gluten in the wheat flour in the crust? Was it the fiber in the tomatoes in the sauce? Or the lactose in the cheese? He figured out for himself that high fructose corn syrup, especially in drinks, is definitely a trigger, to the point where he won't drink soda even though he'd love to (carbonation also bothers him). On the other hand, it's taken us two years to finally figure out that some dairy foods are also triggers. And don't even get me started on the frustration of trying to get him to keep a food diary ...

Does anyone do a version of this sc diet? I thought about going gluten and sucrose free for now and see how he does. Also, we have been doing Pediasure for 2 years now, but found a better product if anyone is interested- it is called Pedia Smart. It is bpa, sucrose, lactose and gluten free. also organic. I am so excited about it!!!!!! Can only order it on-line

Does your 4 yr old swallow pills?
I would just stay away from the fresh fruit and vegetables at this point.
Try for the starchy rice and potatoes, eggs, limit dairy etc.
Everyone is different for what aggravates them, usually kids are so picky it is hard to limit too much in their diet but staying away from dairy may be helpful.

You may be right, he may not know what "feeling well" feels like. My daughter was sick very, very young and it took a number of yrs she was 4 when she was diagnosed w/CD. I think she too has a very high tolerance to pain, partly because she had been sick for so long.
Our doc had us meet with a nutrionist right after she was diagnosed. We had a huge amount of learning to do. I thought I was living by example and having a healthy lifestyle w/lots of raw veggies, salads, and high fiber. WRONG!!! She was put on a low fiber / low residue diet and I had to re-learn everything. I would say it took a good six months of reading labels in the grocery store and trial / error w/her and a food journal (to see what her "trigger" foods were). It is now six yrs later and after a lot of trial and error, we are living as "normal" a life as we can. She is 10 now and knows her limits....it is funny, she knows what she can/ cannot tolerate and also knows how to cheat!
