My son is 17 and a junior in high school. He's had Crohn's Disease since he was 12. He is on Remicaide which helps his Crohns but he catches every virus/bacteria that he's exposed to. This is really interfering with his ability to keep up with AP classes and a social life in general. We have him on a lot of supplements to boost his immune system, but nothing seems to work very well. Any ideas on how we can keep him healthy without pulling him out of school?

The one thing I found out was that my son was behind and wasn't telling us. I only found out because I noticed that he wasn't taking notes in any of his classes, so I contacted his teachers. For him, being absent because he was sick was totally overwhelming him and his ability to cope with school. We have now taken him out of his classes, except for AP English and Physics and he is taking 2 classes online. This has seemed to help him cope.
I would also recommend that you have a 504 plan if you don't all ready.

my son is a junior also...taking AP courses. just started remicade-2nd dose today. keeping up with school is a huge concern for our family too. he was DX in summer 2010 w/crohns. we had a flare up at end of september...missed most of the week of school. while he was present for some of the classes, I am not sure how much he was able to focus. Trying not to put too much pressure-hope he is caught up. So far, the remicade has reduced the symptoms for him. I am not sure what to do if he gets sick with everyday "bugs"---he can't afford extra absences.
My son has Crohn's and is currently in jail. T....
