My son was diagnosed with Crohn's a few weeks ago. He has been doing well, normal stool and feeling good. Last week he had a couple days with bloody diarrhea which we thought might have been caused by the Crohn's or the drug he is on, Pentasa. His diarrhea went away and he seemed fine. We learned yesterday that he has a bacterial infection and will need antibiotics (his first ever) I have been reading about this bacteria and it sounds kind of scary . We are tying to wrap our brains around all this. I feel like soon as he is feeling better something else is thrown at us. My poor little guy's world has been turned upside down. Does anybody have any experience with clostridium difficile.

Okay that does stink. I'm so sorry. I hate that the Flagyl didn't work for him but try not to worry too much. The Vancomycin is a "big gun" and we'll all be thinking of you all. It will work!!!!
Lots of prayers,

Well Flagyl has not worked on the c.diff. We are starting another antibiotic Vancomycin. My son does not even seem sick I can't believe that this stubborn bacteria is wrecking so much havoc. Reading about C. diff I am getting worried. I have been trying to remain positive, it really stinks being so helpless.

My son was diagnosed last spring (at age 8) after having problems since he was born! He contracted C-Diff and ended up in the hospital for several days soon after his diasnosis. If I remember correctly, we made jello and inserted the pill in a spoonful so he could swallow it.

Sorry you are dealing with C-diff- the Flagyl was a nightmare to get my daughter to take. We had to use chocolate sauce to mask the flavor.
She did recover after 1 round of Flagyl- thanfully but I also used Florastor for kids 2 times a day- for a long time. Well after the Flagyl was finished. I think it is very important to add this to your son's regimen.
I also used Culturelle to add back in the good bacteria.
Good luck and I hope you both get better quickly

Thanks, he is staying hydrated, and his appetite is good. I had never heard of this bacteria before and was getting scared reading about it. Thanks for your kind words and lets hope this one round of antibiotcs will do the trick! He is also taking Pentasa. I hate giving him so many meds

Thank you for your replies. I had to go back to the pharmacist and ask them to add more flavor to the antibiotic to make it more tolerable for him, he was fighting me on taking it and its only been 4 of the 14 days! I have been trying to remain positive but its tough sometimes. It helps to hear about other little ones out there that have gone through it and are OK.

Beans Mom - My daughter had c diff a couple of months before diagnosis - she was 5 at the time (ironically). Anyway, we also did well on Flagyl and Florastor. It is scary, I know.
Claire never complained about the Flagyl taste (she can swallow pills though) but the Florastor wasn't always the easiest to get down. Yogurt worked well for us to mask that.
I hope things are better soon.

Hi
My daughter had C Diff in June and was in the hospital for 3 days. She took Flagyl which helped a lot. I doubled her dose of Probiotics (Florastor) and she was also on Prednisone. I SO know what you mean about thinking things are getting better and then something else is thrown at you. This has been the story of our lives this entire year!
What meds is he on? Fluids are really important!!! Flagyl tastes terrible (even in pill form) so my daughter would take it with a spoon of peanut butter.
