I am trying to figure this IBD/Crohn's stuff out. My 5 year old was diagnosed last fall and we have had tons of ups and downs.
My son seems to have a mild case of Crohn's and usually does pretty well, we watch his diet and he is on Pentasa daily. The last few days he has had diarrhea 2 or 3 times a day with blood. The last time he had these symptoms it was not a flare but C-Diff (which we finally got rid of about 3 weeks ago). I will call his docs but was just wondering if this sounds like a typical flare?

The C-Diff is back!! We started Vanco again today. This is our third round of Antibiotics, we got rid of it a few weeks ago but not for long. I am not sure why he got it again, I thought I was cleaning the bathroom well enough, I now have a spray bottle with bleach next to the toilet, if it was cross contaminated in the house somehow it won't happen again! My son takes his meds like a trooper, It is truly amazing how strong and brave our kids are!

rich - C Diff is the nickname for Clostridium Difficile. It's a nasty bacteria that can have a party in the bowel. Very contagious. And IBD patients can be more susceptible to infection or have a more difficult time fighting it off.
Mayo's article is a good one. Here you go:

I hope your son never has to know a thing about it!!

It sounds like a flare. My son was diagnoised at 2 and had bloody stools quite often. Is your son taking sulfadine and on steriods? May I ask what C Diff is? Good luck with your boy. Stay positive. My son is now 19 and still flares up. He's dealing with skin lesions now but other than that he is a healthy young man.

Beansmom - It's hard to tell. Your instinct to call the doc is spot in. They need to be sure it isn't the c diff rearing it's ugly head and if it isn't, sounds like his little belly needs some attention. Hang in there!!!
