Hello and glad you found this board...you are not alone! My son Victor was diagnosed last year at the age of 8 with UC...we are still in the process of figuring out remission...he has had 5 flares so far. He is now on 6MP and going to be tested again to check his theraputic levels.
We have gone through all the emotions which you probably are going through now...especially the WHY MY CHILD!!
Hang in there and know you do have support...

I feel your pain. My son was 16th mths when he was first diagonosed with Crohn's Colitis. He now 3yrs old. Noone in my family has CC's and we had never heard of Crohn's Disease. We have just started with Imuran with in the last couple of days. He has been on Flagyl and Prednisone since diagnoses. I cannot explain to you what we have gone through. Now we are just monitoring the side effects of Immuran.

Hi,
Everyone's situation is different, but we definitely feel your pain. Our daughter Nicole, now 12, was also diagnosed at age 2 with UC. She did not respond to meds and had a colectomy with ileoanal pullthrough between the ages of 4 and 6 (three operations).
She is now an honor student performing at grade level, has friends, and is able to eat whatever she wants and participate in any activity, including sports. She had some developmental delays from spending so much time in the hospital during her early years, but overcame them with speech/language therapy and social skills training.
You will be feeling stressed and overwhelmed. Don't feel guilty about it. Don't react--think about anything, no matter how small, for at least a minute before you act or respond. Do your research and don't be afraid to ask questions. Hard as it may be, try to find some time away from your child. Doing so will give you perspective, keep you calmer, and help you be a better advocate for him.
If you have specific questions feel free to contact me.
Nina
