I gave birth to my perfectly healthy son in June '08, after the easiest pregnancy ever.
Since about 6wks postpartum, my joints have been achy to the point where some days I couldn't move, let alone pick up the baby. Horrible, debilitating pain. Gastro put me on prednisone and increased my 6mp, while telling me to keep my Pentasa the same.
9 months later, issues are still there! Nobody can help me; one doc says it's a Crohn's issue, another tells me it's arthritis. I need to feel better--my son isn't getting any lighter!
Anyone else have a bad postpartum recovery? I'm desperate to try just about anything at this point.
Thanks!

i've had 2 pregnancies since having my colectomy surgery in 2003. i have 2 girls--one is 3 and a half and my baby girl is 20 months old. both healthy, thank god!! anyway, i'm concerned that the doctor you saw put you on prednisone. i'm no medical expert; however, don't doctors realize that prednisone is *** on our bodies including our joints and our bones??!! i've been on enough prednisone that i continue having joint, muscle & teeth problems that will probably always exist. my best advice to you as a mother, sit down first and then hold your baby. does that make sense? i mean, i know that you need to be able to pick him up, but limit it as much as you can. try to use other parts of your body for your strength. it helps to exercise, too. i know how traumatic it is to not be able to hold your baby when you want & need to. utilize help whenever possible & take things slow when you do want/need to pick him up. also, don't let anyone tell you that you shouldn't hold your baby for too long!! hold on to that precious little angel every moment that you can!!!!

Good luck with your appointment. I know how frustrating it can be. I hope you find an answer soon.

I have an appointment next week and will mention it then. This has to stop! Just going up the stairs is torture.

I have not had trouble with post partum yet (14 weeks pregnant now), but my UC did spiral out of control while I was on Remicade. I had the same dibitating joint pain where some days it took all I had to get to the rest room and back. I'm not sure if you already tried this, but after several tests I was also told that it was arthritis or inflamation which can be brought on my UC. They switched me to Humira. It treats both (Crohns and arthritis). I still struggle with my UC, but the Humira took care of all joint pain. I have no idea if it will work for you, but it may be worth talking to your doctor about it. Good luck.
Looking to see if anyone else is dealing with li....
