I just have a quick question.
I was recently diagnosed with Crohn's Disease, and I have been taking birth control since I was about 17 to help regulate my periods. My doctor told me that I had PCOS (poly-cystic ovarian syndrome) even though the testing could not confirm it (everything came back normal).
I have been on Entocort for a few weeks now, and I haven't really noticed that much of a difference in regards to my symptoms and pain. My question is, does anyone here on birth control notice that their Crohn's symptoms increase when they are taking birth control? Last week I started my period, and I was on the non-active pills in my pack. It seemed that during that time, I felt much better in regards to my symptoms. But when I started my new pack of birth control the other night, the very next day I was back to watery bowel movements (about 8 in the course of the day) and cramping. It could just be a coincedence, but it made me wonder.
I take Yasmin for birth control, which is also used to treat PCOS, which at the moment I don't believe I even have PCOS because I have read a lot that Crohn's effect's your menstraul cycle. Anyone have any thoughts?

If any of you with PCOS in the New York State area. I work in a doctors office and one of my doctors specializes in internal medicine and PCOS and she is amazing. He name is Dr. Tania Dempsey. Just a suggestion if you need a pcos doc.

Thank you both for your replies, I appreciate your input.
I will definitely ask my GI doctor when I see him at the end of July in regards to the birth control that I am taking and see if he has any suggestions for me.

I have the exact opposite problem. During my time of the month when I am on the sugar pills, my Crohn's always flares up. I wish I could help more. Maybe you need to try a different type of pill. I take Aviane. I would ask your doctor. Good Luck .

How werid. I was diganosed with PCOS as well, and recently (Nov 2008) diganosed with UC.
I am sorry I don't have any answers to your questions. I have been a bit distracted dealing with UC and have since stopped taking Yasmin (I took the same Med too) so I don't know how they interact never been on them both at once.
I wonder if others have had the same diagnoses od PCOS and Crohns/or UC.
Try consulting the Doc. or a pharmaist.
GOOD LUCK.
Looking to see if anyone else is dealing with li....
