I would like to get pregnant in the next year but my doc wants me to get on Remicade or Imuran. Has anyone been pregnant while taking these drugs?

I am 18 weeks pregnant and on Remicade and Pentasa. Both of these medications are class B. Before we attempted to get pregnant I meet with my GI, GYN, and PCP doctors to make sure that it was okay to proceed. I have not had any flares while on the Remicade and have been on it for 1.5 years. I have had several infusions since we conceived and have not had any problems. Out of the 5 doctors I have seen, only one of them tried to tell us that I should stop the medications. She does not handle any of my primary care, it was a one time visit, I did not think highly of her. I trust the doctors that I go to and have seen my GYN and GI doctor for several years and have a good relationship with them, I think this is important because they understand what I am going through and what our plans are and are trying to help us. We also prayed a lot about our decison before we tried to concieve and felt that it was the right thing for us to do and that it was okay for me to stay on my medications. I hope that everything works out for you.

I am 10 weeks pregnant and on Remicade. My doctor (OB and GI) did not want me on Imuran while trying to conceive or when I am pregnant. I have had 2 infusions since becoming pregnant. My GI stopped using solucortef at the beginning of my infusions due to my pregnancy however, my OB said he was fine with me having it.
I can not imagine my life without Remicade. It has been such a stablizer in my health. I always joke that it's my crack too bad it's not that cheap!

I know Imuran is a pregnancy category D drug and category D's are not usually recommended in pregnancy (unless the benefits outweigh the risks). I am on 6mp, which is in the same drug class as Imuran and, therefore, a category D. My GI dr recommended that I switch medications to a safer one before getting pregnant. Remicade is a category B which is much safer than a category D during pregnancy and is actually one of the medications my dr discussed with me when she suggested I switch.

I just had a daughter 3 weeks ago and I was on Imuran the entire time as well as Colazol and Mesalamine enemas. Pregnancy was wonderful w/ no complications and she was 6 lbs when born. I had the doctor do a CBC (complete blood count) on her and everything was fine. Imuran sometimes will mess up your counts in certain areas. I don't know how much Imuran got to her in utero, but her doctor said she'd keep a check on her. I'm not breastfeeding so she won't be exposed any longer than necessary.
Good luck w/ your decision! It took me years to decide to do it on Imuran or off, but w/ my doctors support I was able to decide and I pray that all will be well.
Looking to see if anyone else is dealing with li....
