I was originally misdiagnosed with Gastritis back in 1998 & finally officially diagnosed with UC in 2006... I started out treating it with high doses of Prednisone & Asacol... Turned out I was allergic to the Asacol, so ee then tried Azathioprine, Cyclosporine & Tacrolimus (Prograf) along with the Prednisone, but I continued to have severe flare ups that put me in the hospital... In 2007 my Gastroenterologist put me on Remicade which has saved my life... I still have minor symptoms from time to time, but have only had severe flares when I have been without insurance... I have been hospitalized a total of 8 times for complications of my UC... My last severe flare stemmed from a severe C-Diff infection I contracted in 2012 from a high powered antibiotic gor a kidney infection that a UC inexperienced ER doc should never have prescribed to me... My veins are so used up from all the hospitalizations & the monthly Remicade infusions over the past 12 years that there are months where it takes my infusionist multiple attempts to get an IV going & I'm really over it... I'm looking for new ways to treat my UC that don't involve being stuck with needles or popping prescription pills... Have any of u had any experience with treating ur UC with the Keto Diet & if so, was the experience bad or did/has it helped.?.?

Heck yeah no worries!!
It's been going good I had one hiccup that i thought was a flare up and it just turned out to be something i ate (or a super limited flare up?? I am still somewhat new to everything only been diagnosed for a little over a year).
Again the Keto seems to be helping quite a bit but also it can be tricky to find food that works for it other than you know meats, cheese and veggies. Also i know every one's UC is different like milk kills my GI and just over all bad experince but not all dairy does that to me.
Let me know if you go on the diet I have some cool brand name stuff thats good for Keto and also recipes

Thanks for sharing... I also have chronic kidney infections & stones, so it's hard to find a balance on food choices... What's good for my UC isn't good for my kidney stones... I'm going to do a little more research before deciding... Please keep me updated on ur progress...

Hey,
I just also made a post about this, I am aslo on remicade (double dose) and it seems to be helping but I have also started the Keto diet (about 3 weeks ago, lost 10lbs) and my GI and gut feel so much better there isnt any bloating or pain or anything as of right now! I hope it continues this way because this is the best I have felt in quite sometime!
I'll keep you posted and see if it continues but for now i totally reccommend this diet, although it can be tricky to find food to eat and you may get bored at some points ha but push on through and take supplements! they have also been a lifesaver for me!

I know how you feel. I am on remicade also, and it has been a lifesaver, but I hate getting poked with needles. I have gotten used to it though from my infusions and getting bloodwork every so often. There is a clinical trial with anti- map therapy which I have heard has been promising for crohn's and UC, which may mean someday, we may not have to constantly keep poking ourselves with needles or popping pills to keep our guts normal.

Thank u for ur input Andrew... I meant to say in my original post that I'm looking for treatments that would hopefully eventually not onvolve being stuck or popping prescription pills... I have no intention on going off the Remicade anytime soon, but if I can find a diet that helps reduce my symptons, then I can eventually lessen the frequency of my treatments....

I would highly discourage you to solely treat your UC through diet. Dieting will not treat and keep any ongoing inflammation in your intestines down. Only medication will help with that. Dieting along with medication can significantly help your symptoms though.
Stress reduction prior to online exams is facilita....
