Long-term diarrhea seven years after total colectomy.

Mon, January 11, 2021 3:00 PM

After living with Colitis for 19 years, I had a total colectomy.

Seven years later, I'm still having 12-15 bowel movements a day, including through the night.

I take 4 Imodium a day.

How do others deal with long-term diarrhea? I find it exhausting and depressing.

I just started Metamucil, hoping that will help.

I read that a low glycemic index diet can help by slowing down digestion.

Any advice is welcome, thanks!

I had your exact same problem. Turns out after the collectomy, which did get rid,of the colitis, I developed Crohns.  Have your gastroenterologist check. There are meds and treatments for crohns. Also, check, for, anemia. All that diarrhea I was passing blood. Ended up needing five pints infusion.
