I like to drink dark roast coffee. When I'm feeling a bit tender on the inside I eliminate it from my diet. I'm considering eliminating it completely and switching to tea.

Hi.  I love my coffee.  Honestly, Dunkin' Donuts works for me.  I get 1/2 and 1/2 but when I'm sick I don't drink it.  ( I have crohn's and ulcerative colitis).  Good luck!

You might be able to test the (in)tolerance of coffee and other drinks. I think it's an individual case whether drinking coffee causes problems/pain. The same is true for food. The are a number of food and drink items that causes problems and should be avoided with Crohn and Colitis patients (also in remission), and coffee is at the top!

I have uc and I have used sc diet for five years. I drink weakish black coffee (not instant powder or decaff) without a problem. I now like it more than coffee with milk but I sometimes have a little 90% chocolate  with it for sweetness (not quite scd legal but very low sugar ).

I have colitis as well & I find that if I can resist coffee for a few months (& I am not having a flare up) I can have one small, slightly weak cup. I use 8 O'clock coffee and non-dairy creamer so as not to aggravate things even worse. It's unfortunate because coffee is so wonderful yet it has to be off limits. I hope this will work for you!

HI.  I love coffee also and had to give it up for long time also.  Then as I began to get better I added DECAF coffee back in as the taste of coffee is what I like primarily.  Then since we all know DECAF has some caffeine in it I decided to experiment.  I tried full coffee and had problems. So then I tried half and half decaf and full and have had no issues if I stick to ONE cup a day.  If I have more than one cup then I have issues.  So - either unlimited decaf w/ no issues or ONE cup of half/half.  I know everyone is different - but trial and error for those things you love.

I have Crohn's and I love coffee but every time I attempt it, I suffer for it.  Therefore I never have it when I am in a flare or even after one is over for a long time.  And even in remission (for the rare times I get there) I have it very rarely.
