I just deleted all the things I wanted to put in this post, and started all over bc I typed over twice as much as what's allowed. Anyway, I've been asymptomatic since temp ileostomy in May, med free since the beginning of July (tapered off Prednisone since I was on so much prior to surgery, needed to continue). If I do start on meds again I'm hoping to be able to try LDN. I want to stay symptom free, and it seems like everyone says SC diet works. I'm a little apprehensive since I can't find the negatives (besides the obvious not being able to eat what everyone else does.) Sometimes when I see posts about it I even wonder if people are getting paid to say what they do about it (it explains the lack of a downside to me, everything always seems to have a downside). Anyway, I've tried to do the diet before, but it never fails that I'll go to someone's house for dinner, or go out to eat with friends, or my boyfriend will bring home something that I just can't seem to resist, and I let this and that slip to the point that I'm not following any diet at all. And believe it or not, some people thought I was using it as an excuse to never eat anything they ever made or offered at their houses bc I just didn't want to eat there for whatever reason (like that I thought they weren't a good cook, or that I thought they were germy or dirty). But since I got the yucky part of my colon removed, and have been asymptomatic, I'm wondering if the diet will still work if I start it by eliminating one group of foods at a time til I am following the diet. If I get used to eliminating one food then moving on, I think it seems so much easier to get used to that way than to revamp my whole diet... it really just overwhelms me and then I end up doing what I explained earlier. But now that I'm feeling SO GOOD, I don't wanna go back to how I felt before.
Also, I'm wondering if the diet completely eliminates flare ups, or do those who follow the diet still get them?

Marksdailyapple is beast!! =) I wish I would have found it sooner. I can't wait to show it to my boyfriend... if anything can get that guy to help out with my diet, it will be that site!!! =)
I know that it doesn't really revolve around Crohn's though... so for instance at a certain part of the site it says "if you are able to tolerate dairy" should I just assume that I am not? I've never noticed that it caused me any problems, but there were very few foods that I ever did identify as causing any problems for me. Those foods were ham, pork, sausage, corn and nuts. I've avoided them like the plague since my ileostomy, but I'm not sure that its the reason I haven't had flares.
How do you know which foods are okay to play around with, and which ones are not? I mostly just find strict "legal" and "illegal" lists.

Thanks for all of the info, I'll have to check out the sites. I've been researching everything more... and I think I'll be able to handle it all now! Especially since I'm kind of feeling that the GI doctor I have switched to now might be a little more supportive of my decisions. I wish there was a way to have doctors look more at diet and CD!!!! But I guess diets don't earn any money for drug companies, so maybe it never will get the reccomendation that it should. Sad. I really hope that money isn't the issue.

Thanks for your help. I've been planning a party for tonight (first party in a new house... it was really postponed bc of CD)... and now it's officially SC friendly =) I'd like to say I'm pretty proud of myself... but it actually wasn't really that hard.
I was wondering if you could glance at this for me and tell me if it looks pretty accurate, if it is I'm going to sit down with this list and plan a grocery list. http://www.scdrecipe.com/legal-illegal-list/listing/ Also, are sweet potatoes okay, or not okay. I've already seen that they are and that they are not. I think most sites had listed them as a food to avoid though.
Do you have a favorite place to get recipes, or does your daughter have any favorite recipes? I want to make something kind of impressive to try to rally some support from my friends! My family lives 10 hours away, and they're supportive, but I think if I can get people who I actually eat with to like some of the recipes I'll find some more support and follow the diet a little better. I don't want anyone to say "Ew, if we eat at Kristen's house, we'll have to eat that weird food!" It'll be easier to follow the diet if I can counter "Let's go out to eat!" With "Hey, you can come to my house and I'll make some really good _____."

Thanks! I don't eat peanuts anyway, don't really care for any kind of nuts actually so that'll be at least one easy thing!!
So, if it's okay to just skip past the intro part of the diet, I guess that by eliminating foods group by group I'm mostly risking having a flare up before I'm actually following the diet.
Do I still have to be careful about fiber... the docs (and I didn't really have really good ones prior to switching) always told me to stick to low fiber.
Ugh! I always end up being so wordy!!!! Sorry bout that!
