Good to know, great information. I have only been diagnosed for a month, so this is all very new to me. I'm struggling a lot with what to eat and what not to eat  I am in pain ALL the time and sometimes I have 5-6 boubt of bloody diarrhea and sometimes I can't go at all. It just sucks  and is soooo frustrating!!!!

What about Activia? I'm not going by what the commercials say, but what my doctors say. They said to eat it four times a day when I was on an antibiotic so that it wouldn't hurt my UC anymore than it already is.

When it comes to dairy products, the most beneficial products that you can buy are made from raw goat's milk. This includes the milk itself, yogurt and the superior health food, kefir. The fat globules in goat's milk are smaller and easier to digest. Compared to cow's milk, goat's milk contains much greater amounts of medium chained fatty acids, which have unique benefits, especially with intestinal disorders. Many people who cannot tolerate cow's milk fair fine with goat's milk. The reason for not pasteurizing the milk is to hold in all of the beneficial bacteria and nutrients that can be damaged by the excessive heat in the pasteurization process.

This is what thousands and thousands of healthy, vibrant people eat. I've been consuming raw goat's milk products from local farms for years now and have had ulcerative colitis for over 10 years. I'm currently not on any medication and feel great. But it's not solely because of the milk. My entire diet has changed and I incorporate things that I've learned in over 5 years of researching U.C. and ways to help heal the disease.
When I cannot get the raw goat's yogurt I get the Redwood Hill Farm brand.

Alan,
Can you tell me the make and model of your yogurt maker and where you bought it.  I used to have one years ago and have no idea what happened to it but it made great yogurt.

I have colitis and have the same issue, as I work full time and cannot make my own yogurt on a regular basis.  I have found that Stonyfield Plain Yogurt is one of the best, as it is Organic and has active cultures. I have not had any digestive issues using this brand. It is sold in most major grocery chains. Homemade is best if you can do it but if you can't, use the next best thing. Always read the labels- look for no pesticides, hormones and steroids. Good luck!
