food choices

Thu, February 23, 2012 11:56 PM

I got diagnosed with crohn's about four months ago, and have been taking Humira, which is very helpful, but its been an uphill battle with foods. I used to eat a lot of whole wheat and foods that are high in fiber, but I realized that they bother my stomach. The problem is now that im eating simple carbs I have less energy than i did before. Any ideas on foods that don't cause inflammation, yet provide a boost of energy?

Thanx.

We faced the same problem when my daughter was diagnosed.   We thought we were eating a healthy (mostly organic) whole diet.  Boy were we wrong!   Way , way too much fiber.   After numerous meetings with a nutritionist, I was finally retrained and able to stock our pantry according to our new needs.

We needed to kick the whole grain everything and focus more on less evasive, more friendly foods.   Do you tolerate eggs well?    I know some say they should be avoided, but we do well.   I make protein shakes made w/egg whites, pineapple and extra virgin coconut oil.   It gives me a great start to my day.  We also get protein from the meat we eat.  Keeping grilled chicken breast in the fridge is a terrific time saver.   Bananas are good here too.   You might want to give it a try for yourself.  Unfortunately, none of us are the same, but it is definitely manageable, just takes a lot of trial and error.

Good luck!
