GI rec: easy to digest diet with 6 small meals/day

Mon, April 09, 2012 9:55 PM

Hi.  Diagnosed since '07 with 2 resections under my belt.  I've been struggling with pain since last resection in August, and recently got 2nd opinion in which the GI said my scans show my stomach gets extremely distended upon eating.  Because of this, she recommended that I switch to low fiber/low roughage diet and eat 6 small meals per day rather than 3 meals.  I recently lost 35 pounds thanks to weight watchers, and am concerned about gaining all of my weight back following this diet.  Any recommendations as to 1) what foods to eat, 2) how to eat them and feel full, and 3) how NOT to gain a million pounds on this diet!  Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Don't worry! You'll be ok. It's recommended to eat six mini meals a day anyways, to stimulate your metabolism and actually lose more weight. I'm not a nutritionist, but here are three good rules of thumb to keep in mind :)
1) your stomach is the size of your fist. Don't eat until you're overly bloated. You should be satisfied, but not FULLLLL.
2) eat balanced at every mini meal! Make sure to have a little carb, protein, and fat!
3) up the ratio of fruits and veggies to other things at every mini meal.

talk to your doc about more specific recommendations, but go with what you like! good luck :)
