Why is my child in the bathroom for 4 hours in the morning?

Wed, April 18, 2012 12:51 PM

My 17 year old son was diagnosed with UC at age 15. He has been on all the meds and now doing Remicade in 6 week cycles. He takes a probiotic and Apriso and his blood work indicates that the Remicade is working. He is in the bathroom every morning for the better part of 3-4 hours. He is actively moving bowels for most of that time. He has missed the first 2 hours of school most of the year and many social events because he does not feel confident leaving the house before noon. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I wanted to respond to you because I see you haven't had any responses.  I feel for your son.  And you...this must be heartbreaking for you.

The only advice I can offer is to sit down and talk with his doctor.  The other thing I am worried about is how he is holding up emotionally.  If he's having a tough time, it may be good to talk to the doctor about that as well.

Hang in there.
