I was diagnosed with Crohn's 9 years ago and have already had a fairly large amount of my small intestine removed about 5 years ago. I have done all of the medications currently on the market as well as numberous trials. I get better for short amounts of time and then sick again. Right now, I am in the middle of a significant flare and my Dr is considering yet another trial, but I am losing weight so quickly that I know that I can continue to go on much longer without any nutrients. I have lost 30+ pounds in about a month and everything that I put in my mouth, causes severe cramping and diarrhea (even water). Has anyone ever had this problem and do you think that trying to take in some kind of Dr'd up smoothies would help get some nutrients into my body? I have done TPN before prior to my surgery and then once again after that and I had some chemical imbalances from it so I am trying to stay away from that.
Any help/advice that you guys can give me would be terrific!
Thanks.

My daughter has had her share of ups/downs, I recently saw a program on a healthy living channel and it featured a girl's battle with IBD and a book that helped her. It is called "Controlling Crohn's Disease the Natural Way. It was a very good read and is written from a patient's perspective, her journey through the healing process. It may be worth checking into - it deals with consuming a macrobiotic diet, meal prep and all. We have not followed the program to the "t", thankfully Liz is doing well, but the book was intriguing so far as the various types of foods and their effect on your body. I am now addicted to Miso soup, soooo good and good for your gut too!
Be well, and never give up hope!

I should clarify that I am lactose intolerant as well. Many nutritional shakes contain dairy and I cannot use those. Thanks for your help everyone.

I looked into liquid nutrients recently for a member of my family who has Crohn's disease. Try Orgain -- a meal replacement drink which was developed by a physician while he was recovering from cancer. It is all organic, supplies a good amount of protein and vitamins/minerals, and tastes great! You can drink several of these/day.
I found it at Whole Foods. It can also be ordered online (via Amazon) for delivery to your home at a better price than purchasing in the store.
Whole Foods also has a good assortment of liquid vitamins and minerals.
Best of luck feeling better.
