Vitamin D

Thu, January 17, 2013 6:56 PM

My GI did a blood test which showed a vitamin D deficiency and recommended vitamin D supplements.  My problem is that they tend to give me diarhea.  I've tried straight vitamin D supplements as well as calcium supplements with D and still get the same results.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

This is going to sound a bit simplistic, but I faced the same issue not too long ago.  I found that drinking tea, just plain old regular tea,  helped "slow" things down if you catch my drift.  I was taking a Calcium supplement with Vitamin D in it, but I was still D deficient. I started supplementing 1000 mg per day per Dr.'s orders and experienced the same thing as you.  I'm a tea drinker anyway and I was just trying to settle my stomach by upping my tea intake and before I knew it, I was a little bit better. Good luck!

Maybe try adding in a soluble fiber like benefiber or metamucil to bulk up stools. This would not only possibly help the diarrhea issues, but supplement fiber intake if you are on a low-residue diet. Worth a shot.
