I just looked at the site for Camp Oasis, and I think it is something I definitely want to do next year. There's no way I'll be able to take the time away from work to do it this year, but I was just wondering if anyone else has ever been there either as a camper or a volunteer. I'd been considering volunteering at a camp for kids who are ventilator dependant since I work with vent dependant kids, but then I found out about this camp, and thought that maybe having Crohn's I might be better off volunteering there. Or maybe till next year I can figure out a way to do both! Who knows! Anyway, I'd love to hear about anybody's experience with it!

That's ok... you hold down the west coast, I'll get the east coast! Lol! I'm glad you replied back though, I was trying to track you down bc you'd mentioned before that that one university was looking for IBD patients who weren't on a specific diet, but when I emailed them, they never sent me anything back. I did tell them I had just got an ileostomy, and that I'm on a low fiber diet bc of the surgery, and I wasn't sure if either of those things made me ineligible. I wish that they'd let me know either way though so that I know they got the email at least. I was just wondering if you happened to know if the ostomy or low fiber diet disqualifies me from the study.

Sorry I took so long to reply! I was on vacation.
I would either do Washington state or Colorado. Colorado is closer, but I have family in Washington, so either way.
It's too bad you and I aren't closer to eachother! That woulda been fun to do it together!

What area would you be volunteering in? We might end up seeing each other! =) I'd go to the one that's the Philadelphia/Delaware Valley chapter I guess. I'm sure it'll be a lot of fun. =) I'm getting ready to send an email to that chapter to see what other info I can get. I love nursing, but I don't want to be just the med lady But I'm kind of thinking that if its like most things in life it will be what I make of it, so even if I am a nurse volunteer, hopefully I'll be more than just the med lady!

I think it would be a wonderful opportunity for both of you to "give back" to a very worthy cause. You may want to contact your local CCFA office. I just received an email they are still short a nurse or 2 for check in at one location and I believe looking for a chaperone or 2 as well. I'm not certain of location, but reach out to your chapter and find out further info for the years to come. I'm sure it would be rewarding and even a bit inspirational.
Good luck!

I was thinking about doing it too! I would love to work with the children. I'm a highly qualified special education teacher and love working with kids. I just think it would be wonderful and I could feel good about what I'd be doing.

If I were to volunteer as a nurse, would I be stuck in a medical tent somewhere, or would I still get to help out with other activities? I want to put my liscense to use if its needed, but I don't want my only interaction with the campers to be medical.

This will be my daughter's third year going. We cannot say enough about it. Tons of fun and everybody feels "normal", because everybody has either CD or UC. She plans to volunteer when she is old enough (she's only 11).
